Packing a Move Day Bag for Kids and Pets

Moving with kids? Just like packing a Move Day bag for yourself, you’ll also need the bags for your kids and pets. The kids’ bag (or pack one separately for each child) could include:

If you are moving with pets, you need to be including items for their needs in your Move Day bag as well. The bag (or box) should contain things your pet might need during the day and immediately after, including:

• Food and water dishes
• A few days of food

• Kitty litter and scoop
• Harness and leash

Move Day bag tips

• Keep your Move Day bags out of the movers’ sight. Put your Move Day bags in your car or another designated place where you can ensure they won’t end up getting loaded for transport.
• Build up the Move Day bag while you pack. If you encounter an item while packing and you know it’s something that you’ll need access to right away, put it in the bag.
• Use a suitcase, or several, for long-distance moves. For longer moves (for instance, when you’ll be staying in hotels on the road trip), you can replace the bag with a suitcase or several, for each family member, and include more clothes, toys for the kids, etc. In other words, pack anything you and they will need on the road to stay comfortable.
